Non availability of adequate employment opportunities in the organized and unorganized sectors is one of the serious challenges faced by the country.Recognising the need for promoting self employment for the unemployed rural youth, especially those below the poverty line and periodic skill upgradation to keep them abreast of latest technologies, the Govt. of Karnataka had taken up with commercial Banks to establish Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institutes (RUDSETI type institutes).
 
Accordingly, Vijaya Bank has established Vijaya Bank Self Employment Training Institute [VIBSETI] at Mandya in the year 1999.
 
The Institute started functioning from January 2000 and has been conducting training programmes for creating awareness and imparting required skills to youths to take up gainful self-employment ventures in Mandya district. Inspired by the success of VIBSETI Mandya a second institute was also setup at Haveri in the year 2003.While VIBSETI, Mandya is functioning from its own premises, VIBSETI, Haveri is functioning from rented premises and is in the process of setting up its own premises.
 
OBJECTIVES
  • To identify, train motivate, counsel and assist the unemployed youths to take up various self – employment ventures.
  • To train youth to develop the aptitude for working in rural areas, rural development projects etc.
  • To conduct training programmes.
  • Counseling, expert guidance and project formulations.
TYPES OF TRAINING PROGRAMMES
VIBSETI conducts various skill development programmes, product development programmes, awareness programmes, sensitization programmes etc which are of short duration ranging from 1 to 6 weeks. The training programmes are designed to build up self-motivation and develop entrepreneurial and technical skill to prepare the trainees to start micro – enterprises either individually or in groups.
 
FACULTY
The Director and Joint Director of both the institutes have undergone Trainers Training programme conducted by RUDSETI, Ujire and conduct classes for the trainees. Apart from experienced in-house faculty, the VIBSETI has faculty support from experienced persons in different fields and also from the established entrepreneurs trained by VIBSETI.
 
TRAINING METHODOLOGY
The training methodologies include lectures, behavioral games, achievement motivation training, micro lab, demonstration, field visits, sharing of experience by successful candidates, group discussions, practical and audio – visual sessions etc.
 
ESCORT SERVICE
Proper system of regular follow up of trainees is carried out by the Institute to ensure that the candidates take up their vocation at the earliest. The Institute assists the trainees in credit linkage by sending the list of trained candidates to Bank branches. Interaction meet with Branch Managers is also arranged to assist the trainees in getting financial assistance.
 
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE :
The monitoring and supervision of the institute is being done by a “Governing Council’ and a ‘Local Advisory Committee’. The Governing Council consists of General Manager, Credit Priority, HO, Vijaya Bank as President, Deputy General Manager, Credit Priority, HO, Vijaya Bank Bangalore, Regional Head, RO, Vijaya Bank, Mysore, Regional Head, RO, Vijaya Bank, Hubli, the Chief Executive Officer, Vijaya Rural Development Foundation and Director, VIBSETI as members. Governing Council meetings are held at quarterly intervals to review the performance of the Institute.
 
The Institute is guided by the Local Advisory Committee’ (LAC) in the dayto day affairs. The LAC is headed by the Regional Head, RO-Mysore/Haveri, while DDM of NABARD, Joint Director of DIC, Lead Bank Manager, Lead Bank, Chief Executive Officer of Zillah Panchayat are  members apart from the Director/Joint Director of VIBSETI, who meet at frequent intervals for guiding the Institute in the day to day functioning. In respect of VIBSETI, Mandya, Chairman, Regional Rural Bank is also a member.
